Virat Kohli’s Century Streak Ends As India Lose to South Africa After 2462 Days

The second ODI at Raipur ended in a surprising loss for India against South Africa. A brilliant century by Virat Kohli and another from Ruturaj Gaikwad gave India 358 runs for 5 wickets. Kohli scored 102 runs off 93 balls, marking his 53rd ODI century and his 84th century overall. With 105 runs, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his first ODI century. Despite a strong total, India didn't win, breaking a record held by Kohli for more than six years (2462 days).

Whenever Virat Kohli scores a century, he usually wins. Only eight times has India lost when it reached 100 runs in 53 ODI centuries. Kohli had won 17 of 18 matches in which he scored an international century before this match. In his batting average of nearly 90, he scored more than 6000 runs while chasing, earning him the title "Chase Master." He scored a century against Australia in 2019, but India lost.

India's loss in Raipur was largely due to poor bowling. With 4 wickets, South Africa successfully chased down 359 runs. Markram led the South African batsmen with a superb century, and others played aggressively to leave Indian bowlers struggling. It was one of the biggest successful chases against India.

The ODI series is now tied 1-1, with the final match to decide. Visakhapatnam will host the third ODI, giving India a chance to forget Raipur. This game is highly anticipated.
