Maniyarayile Ashokan is one of those flicks that succeeds because to its straightforward narrative. Despite its somewhat dull and formulaic narration, what makes this film truly special is how it celebrates life's little pleasures, such as a group of friends gathering to share vermicelli dessert. Though it's a romantic comedy about a man who is well beyond his'marriageable age' and the problems that arise from his marriage, it's also a social reflection on how certain societal standards shape our society's view of arranged marriage.
The plot revolves around Ashokan (Gregory) and his aspirations for a married life. Unfortunately, things are not going well for him, and his efforts to locate a suitable marriage are useless as he is repeatedly rejected for various reasons. Except for his loving family and very supportive friends who also act as his support system, he has nothing going for him in his life, from his appearance to his basic clerical work.
